Vidor is six miles northeast of Beaumont at Interstate 10 and FM 105, 9,789 people at the 2020 census, and on the other side of a county line that changes the rules. Read the box first; it is the reason this page exists separately.
Everything else on this site. Vidor's housing is the same Southeast Texas stock as the Beaumont side, frame and brick on slab or piers, composition shingle, wood siding giving way to vinyl and fiber-cement, and it has been through the same weather: extensive Harvey damage in 2017, Imelda's rain in the Winnie-to-Orange band that the NWS measured at 30 to 44 inches in September 2019, and Laura's wind on August 27, 2020, which the National Hurricane Center says brought down trees and power lines across Orange County.
So a Vidor homeowner uses the wind damage, replacement and siding pages the same way, and skips the inspection paragraphs. A contractor is still expected to build a Vidor roof well; nobody from the state comes to check it, and the private insurer writing the windstorm coverage may have its own view of the roof's age and condition. Ask the agent what the policy expects.
TWIA's coverage-eligibility page names fourteen first-tier counties plus parts of Harris County east of Highway 146. Jefferson is on the list; Orange is not. The Texas Department of Insurance's windstorm inspection program follows the same map. Vidor is therefore outside the designated catastrophe area, and a contractor who tells a Vidor homeowner that a windstorm certificate is required has the map wrong.
