Port Neches, incorporated in April 1927 and 13,692 people at the 2020 census, sits on the river between Nederland and the plants. Its housing is the Mid-County pattern: frame houses on piers from the refinery decades, brick ranches from the 1960s and 1970s, composition shingle roofs that have been through Rita, Ike and Laura. It is in Jefferson County, and every re-roof here is inspected under the windstorm rule.

Port Neches is also the city where the TPC Group plant exploded on November 27, 2019, an event that damaged homes in the city and the surrounding area and prompted an evacuation of some 60,000 people from several nearby cities.
